European Law

The multi-level governance of the European Union is characterized by an extremely high degree of complexity. At the same time, European Union law has become of substantial importance in the national legal systems. There is hardly an area of life which is not legislated at European level. A broad knowledge of European Union law has therefore become indispensable in order to avoid unnecessary risks.

Representation before the EU-Institutions and the European Court of Justice
Dr. Thomas Hieber advices undertakings, associations and non-governmental organizations on all matters of institutional and substantive EU law (Charter of Fundamental Rights, data protection, internal market, access to documents, competition law, Union citizenship, etc.). This may be of relevance in different circumstances: e.g. in the context of consultations held by the European Commission for the preparation of legislative proposals, current legislative processes, administrative procedures before the European Commission or EU agencies, complaints before the European ombudsman and litigation before national and European courts.
European Citizens‘ Initiative
Since the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, citizens of the European Union may take the initiative of inviting the European Commission, within the framework of its powers, to submit appropriate proposals for regulations, directives and other legal acts. The European Citizens‘ Initiative is the first transnational participatory right. Dr. Thomas Hieber supports associations and non-governmental organisations at all stages of the procedures, advises to all relevant legal issues and represents European Citizens‘ Initiative before the European Commission and the European Court of Justice.
